Defibrillators in Charlton Village

Charlton Village Residents Association is extremely proud to have installed our first defibrillator at Charlton Village Hall in December 2023, followed by our second at the village shop in October 2025.

The safety of residents, visitors and the wider Charlton Village community is of the utmost importance to this committee. Our sincere thanks go to Shepperton Studios and Councillor Maureen Attewell for funding these units.

What to do in an emergency

  1. If someone collapses and is unresponsive, call 999 on loudspeaker. The ambulance call handler will help you check whether they are breathing normally.
  2. If they are not breathing normally, start CPR and follow the call handler’s instructions.
  3. If someone else is with you, ask them to fetch a defibrillator. If you are alone, do not interrupt CPR to go and look for one. The 999 operator can help locate the nearest available device and advise about cabinet access.
  4. Switch on the defibrillator and follow its spoken and visual prompts. Anyone can use one; you do not need previous training. Place the pads as shown on the device.
  5. Stand clear whenever the device tells you to. Do not touch the person while it analyses their heart rhythm or delivers a shock. Continue CPR when instructed, and follow the ambulance team’s directions when they arrive.
