About Charlton Village and CVRA
A village to feel part of. An association working together for its future.
Charlton Village: a place to belong
Charlton Village, Shepperton, is a community of approximately 460 homes and 800 residents. It is a place with a long history and a community that continues to write its story. The Harrow, our farm names, familiar roads and the neighbouring Queen Mary Reservoir connect today’s village with the landscape and working lives of earlier generations.
What makes Charlton Village special is also found in everyday moments: neighbours stopping for a chat, a helping hand, flowers cared for through the seasons and people coming together for a village event. We want everyone, whether they have lived here for decades or have just arrived, to feel welcome and able to take part.
Caring for that sense of belonging means looking after our surroundings, respecting our shared spaces and making room for different generations, experiences and ideas. Our village’s past matters, and so does the future we shape together.
Our village. Our community.CVRA: working together for our village
Charlton Village Residents Association (CVRA) was formed around 1954 to give residents a collective voice and help care for the village we call home. We are an independent, non-political and non-sectarian association run by local volunteers for the benefit of the community rather than for profit.
The current committee was elected in July 2023 with a commitment to make a positive difference. Our work combines practical improvements with representation, communication and opportunities to enjoy village life. We want residents to feel that CVRA belongs to them and that their support can help shape the village’s future.
Protecting Charlton Village from overdevelopment is one of our core priorities. We want the village’s character, green spaces and identity to be respected. We consider planning proposals carefully, seek residents’ views and raise concerns about their effect on the community. We work with councils, neighbouring residents’ associations, local businesses and other organisations to help make the village’s voice heard.
Improving village infrastructure is equally important. We press for practical progress on roads, drainage, footpaths, traffic, parking and shared facilities. Alongside that work, our gardening volunteers and supporters care for planting, hanging baskets, trees and wildlife spaces. These visible improvements sit alongside the less visible time spent in meetings, following up concerns and working towards solutions.
We listen and actively seek members’ opinions and ideas, and represent members in everything we do. Residents’ meetings, conversations and votes on important matters help shape our priorities. Different views deserve a fair hearing, and we want people to understand how they can contribute before decisions affecting village life are made.
Keeping people informed is part of that commitment. Our newsletters, website, email updates and periodic event leaflets help share progress, explain local matters and encourage participation. Our email distribution list reaches more than 250 residents. We also share neighbourhood watch information to help residents stay aware and look out for one another.
Community events bring neighbours and generations together, while voluntary membership contributions and fundraising help support improvements across Charlton Village. The voluntary annual contribution is £10. Participation grew from around 12% of residents when the committee took office in 2023 to around 55% by October 2026, helping us do more for the village. We keep track of membership contributions and send renewal reminders around each member’s payment anniversary. Every contribution of money, time, skills or ideas helps sustain the work.
